Lot 1103: An Antique Late Victorian Mahogany Glazed Display Cabinet / Bookcase
An antique late Victorian mahogany glazed display cabinet / bookcase, featuring a twin-door design with decorative glazing. The cabinet is constructed from mahogany and mahogany-veneered hardwood with a dark stained finish. The two doors are fitted with wooden astragal glazing bars arranged in a decorative diamond-lattice pattern, dividing the glass into multiple panes. The interior contains two fixed wooden shelves. The piece is supported by a base with a shaped apron and decorative cutout feet forming the supports. No maker’s marks, manufacturer’s labels, or signatures are visible to the exterior or through the glazing.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
The cabinet exhibits general surface wear consistent with age, including scuffs, scratches, and minor losses to the finish throughout. There is a notable area of white paint-like residue or marking on the exterior of the left-hand side panel (photo 1). The glass and interior are dusty and require cleaning. The wooden astragal glazing bars appear to be intact without major breaks or separations.
