Lot 645: A Collection of Vintage Costume Jewellery Floral and Botanical Brooches
A collection of vintage costume jewellery floral and botanical brooches, primarily featuring mid-century designs in gilt and silver-tone base metals. The collection includes four pieces decorated with moulded red resin rosebuds set into gold-tone basket and scrollwork frames. A large silver-tone branch-form brooch is set with multiple pale-pink oval cabochons, likely Lucite, and small clear rhinestone accents. Other designs include a dark-toned floral sprig heavily set with amber-coloured faceted glass rhinestones, an openwork gilt rose, and a textured gold-tone leaf-form pin. A decorative hat-shaped brooch features a textured gilt surface with two clusters of pale blue-grey flowers. The lot also contains a copper-toned floral bouquet with green and red enamelled details, and an oval brooch with a rope-twist border enclosing tumbled green stone chips. A white adhesive lot tag is attached reading HCP Auctions South West Lot 645. A stray four-hole plastic button is present in the lower-left corner. No maker’s marks are legible on the front surfaces of the pieces.
Condition report:
The lot is in good vintage condition overall, showing minor surface wear and light oxidation consistent with age (photo 1). The large silver-tone botanical cluster brooch is missing at least one small clear rhinestone accent from the upper right-hand cluster (photo 1). The resin, enamel, and stone elements appear to be secure and intact on the remaining items (photo 2).
