Lot 657: A Vintage Collection of Worldwide Postage Stamps in La Paz Wooden Cigar Boxes
A vintage collection of worldwide postage stamps housed within two La Paz wooden cigar boxes. The philatelic material consists of a large quantity of used, unsorted issues on and off paper, primarily from the United States, Spain, and the Netherlands. Visible pieces include a vertical strip of four USA 18c Savings Bonds stamps and a stock strip holding four Spanish definitive issues, including 10-centimo, 5-centimo, 1-centimo, and 25-centimo denominations. The accumulation contains various circular date stamps and machine cancellations across commemorative and definitive series. The primary storage container is a light-coloured wooden box branded with CHERIE and a central circular device for TABACOS La Paz PRIMEROS, while a secondary box bears a yellow paper label inscribed 50 SIGAREN 014.
Condition report:
The stamps are in mixed, unsorted condition, with many items present as on-paper kiloware (photo 1). The Spanish stamps in the stock strip appear to be in good commercial condition with varied centering (photo 1). The wooden containers show typical signs of vintage use including light surface abrasions, natural wood grain variations, and minor staining (photo 1).
