Lot 665: A Collection of Vintage English Table Tennis Association Memorabilia and an Artist's Mannequin
A collection of vintage English Table Tennis Association (E.T.T.A.) memorabilia and an articulated wooden artist’s mannequin, presented in a cream-coloured storage box with a red velvet-effect lining. The mannequin is constructed from a light-finished wood with multiple points of articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, knees, and ankles, mounted on a circular turned base with a metal support rod. The sports memorabilia consists of two embroidered cloth blazer patches. One patch, shield-shaped and dark green, is embroidered with ‘ENGLISH CLUB COACH’ and ‘TABLE TENNIS ASSN’ around a central three-lion motif. The second is a black shield-shaped patch featuring three golden lions and the embroidered text ‘E.T.T.A.’ and ‘NATIONAL UMPIRE’. The collection also includes a vintage manicure buffer with a handle made from a light-coloured natural material, and a selection of vintage costume jewellery including a silver-toned metal bangle with incised cross-hatch decoration and various stone-set brooches. A white multi-strand twisted cord is also present.
Condition report:
The wooden mannequin appears in good condition with all joints functional (photo 1). The embroidered patches show minor fraying and loose threads at the edges consistent with previous attachment to a garment (photo 2). The manicure buffer handle displays yellowing and fine surface cracking, and the buffing pad shows signs of use (photo 2). The costume jewellery items exhibit some surface tarnishing and minor wear (photo 3). The storage box shows external scuffing and light wear to the interior red velvet-effect lining (photo 1).
