Lot 683: A Pair of Vintage Silver and Red Cabochon Drop Earrings
A pair of vintage silver and red cabochon drop earrings, each featuring a central oval cabochon stone. The earrings are constructed as matched drops with the stones bezel-set within a decorative frame of granulated silver-toned beads in a starburst arrangement. Each earring is suspended from a hook-style ear wire. The opaque red stones are vibrant in colour, set against metalwork that displays a heavy dark patina and tarnishing consistent with aged silver. Small, incised marks are present on the reverse of the ear wires, but the characters are not clearly legible as a specific maker or purity mark. The earrings are housed in a generic light-blue presentation box with a white ribbon.
Condition report:
The earrings show signs of age and wear. Significant tarnishing is visible across the metal surfaces of both earrings (photo 1). The ear wire on one earring is noticeably bent out of its intended shape (photo 2). The red cabochons appear to be in good condition with no visible chips or cracks to the surface. The presentation box shows light surface soiling and wear to the edges.
