Lot 1158: A Mid-20th Century Jacobean Revival Oak Court Cupboard / Buffet Sideboard
A mid-20th century Jacobean revival oak court cupboard / buffet sideboard. The two-tier structure features a recessed upper cabinet with a central door flanked by canted side panels, set beneath an overhanging top rail decorated with a carved scalloped gadrooned border and two turned pendant finials. The door and panels are embellished with hand-carved relief decoration depicting geometric diamond and floral motifs. The lower section consists of a flat serving surface above two full-width drawers with vertical fluted reeded carving, supported by a two-door cupboard base on a plinth with bracket-style feet. The cabinet retains ornate cast brass butterfly hinges and circular decorative backplates. There are no readable maker’s marks or manufacturer labels; however, a small white adhesive stock label on the left side of the upper cabinet displays the digits ‘1158’.

Condition report:
The item is in fair condition and requires thorough cleaning due to a heavy accumulation of dust and surface grime across all surfaces (photo 1). The mid-tier serving surface exhibits visible scratches, scuffing, and wear to the dark-stained finish (photo 4). General wear, nicks, and minor abrasions are present along the edges, feet, and carved details. The brass hardware is mostly intact, although the top right drawer pull is incomplete and missing its drop-ring component (photo 1).
