Two antique and vintage shark spine and faux-bamboo walking sticks, comprising a natural history curiosity and a decorative wooden cane. The antique shark spine walking cane features a dark hooked handle of polished composition material, transitioning into a shaft constructed from stacked natural shark vertebrae. These bone segments are arranged over a central supporting rod and finished with a dark brown translucent varnish that highlights the natural segmented structure. The vintage faux-bamboo walking stick features a classic Derby-style hardwood handle with a prominent straight grain, joined to a light-coloured wooden shaft. The shaft is decorated with regular dark horizontal scorched bands in imitation of natural bamboo nodes. Condition report:
The shark spine cane is in good antique condition, with the vertebrae tightly packed and showing no significant gaps or losses (photo 1). The surface finish retains a high lustre with typical light surface wear consistent with age (photo 2). The wooden stick is in good vintage condition; the handle shows minor surface marks from use (photo 1), and the shaft exhibits light scuffing and minor indentations consistent with regular use (photo 2).
