Lot 733: A Vintage Middle Eastern Engraved Brass Dallah Coffee Set and Tray
A vintage Middle Eastern engraved brass Dallah coffee set and tray, comprising a variety of traditional serving vessels and decorative items. The collection features a large circular tray decorated with concentric bands of hand-chased foliate and geometric motifs surrounding a central circular medallion. There are two Dallah coffee pots of graduated sizes, each exhibiting the characteristic long, curved spout and a hinged conical lid topped with a pointed finial. The set is accompanied by six small stemmed drinking goblets, each featuring chased foliate patterns to the bowls. Also included are two brass candlesticks with baluster-form stems and three small decorative bowls. These bowls are finished with intricate incised floral designs, containing traces of red and green enamel pigment infill. A small green and white adhesive label to the neck of the smaller Dallah pot reads ZARA in red text. Condition report:
The lot is in vintage, used condition with overall tarnishing and a dull patina throughout (photo 1). The large tray shows surface wear, light scratches, and localised areas of discolouration consistent with age and use (photo 1). The coffee pots and drinking vessels show minor surface oxidation in recessed areas of the engraving; one of the stemmed drinking cups shows a slightly misaligned stem (photo 3). The small decorative bowls show significant wear to the interior surfaces and loss to the decorative pigment infill (photo 2).
