Lot 955: A Vintage Early 20th Century Oak Twin-Pedestal Desk
A vintage early 20th century oak twin-pedestal desk, of substantial construction and featuring a polished oak rectangular top with a wide, framed border. The desk is configured with three frieze drawers arranged across the upper section, situated above two pedestals each containing a single-panelled cupboard door. The piece is constructed from oak with a prominent grain and a medium-to-dark brown finish. Each drawer and cupboard door is fitted with a simple brass keyhole escutcheon, though the original pulls are absent. The pedestals are supported on solid plinth bases with a central kneehole. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior of the piece.

Condition report:
The desk is in used condition and requires restoration. The top surface shows multiple dark circular ring marks and liquid stains (image 1). Extensive scuffs, scratches, and abrasions are present across all surfaces, particularly visible on the top edges and around the plinth bases (image 1). All drawer and door handles/pulls are currently missing. There is a small area of surface loss on the front of the central frieze drawer (image 1). Chipping and wear are visible on the bottom edges of the plinth bases. General accumulated dust is present in the recessed panel mouldings.
