Lot 489: A Collection of Silver-Plated and White Metal Items including a Tankard, Spirit Lamp Burner, and Assorted Flatware
A collection of silver-plated and white metal items, including a tankard, a spirit lamp burner, a pair of sugar tongs, and various spoons. The tankard has a tapering cylindrical body with a stepped foot and a scroll handle, with the front engraved with a central monogram flanked by a mark consisting of a small crown above the letters MM. The spirit lamp burner is of domed circular form with a central aperture containing a braided cotton wick. The sugar tongs are of bow-form with oval spoon-shaped grips. The flatware comprises assorted spoons, including examples in the Fiddle pattern and an Old English pattern spoon featuring a small incised mark at the terminal tip. Decorative spoons include one with a scrolling handle and another with a foliate and beaded border. Two souvenir spoons are included: one features a terminal in the shape of a cross flanked by the letters MM with the vertical inscription 2000 YEARS A.D., and the other features an enamelled terminal with the text JAVEA above a crest, with the bowl formed from a Spanish coin inscribed REY CONST ESPAÑA. No maker names or British hallmarks are readable on the items.
