Lot 546: An Assortment of Novelty Ceramic Teapots
An assortment of glazed earthenware novelty teapots, each featuring distinct relief-moulded or transfer-printed decoration. One teapot is modelled as a Victorian-style greenhouse or florist shop, featuring transfer-printed scenes of window displays with potted plants and figures; it bears the printed inscriptions FLORIE’S FLOWERS and a floral teapot in black lettering. A second teapot is modelled as the White Tower of the Tower of London, with relief-moulded stonework, four blue-painted corner turrets, and a miniature fabric Union Jack flag. A third teapot is shaped as a shoe-house dwelling, featuring two relief-moulded teddy bear figures, one peering from an upper window and another seated beside the spout. The exterior is hand-painted in naturalistic earth tones. A fourth example is a large square-form teapot decorated with a dense relief-moulded cottage garden scene, including a dry-stone wall and climbing red roses. No makers’ marks are visible on the exterior bodies of the items.
