Lot 610: Two English Churchill blue and white transfer-printed earthenware jugs
An English transfer-printed earthenware lot comprising two jugs of differing forms. The larger item is a lidded jug of cylindrical form featuring an ornate scrolling handle and a domed lid. The body is decorated with a blue transfer-printed romantic landscape pattern depicting an abbey or church building amidst trees. The base of this piece features the words Churchill and England embossed into the earthenware, alongside a blue printed backstamp showing a lion rampant symbol next to the words Churchill and England. The number 12 is also impressed into the base. The smaller item is a bulbous cream jug with a shaped, scalloped rim. It is decorated with a traditional blue Willow pattern transfer-print, featuring pagodas, a bridge, and a willow tree.
