Lot 666: A Set of Four Wedgwood for Whitefriars Creamware Grapevine Pattern Cups and Saucers
A set of four fine cream-coloured earthenware cups and saucers. Each cup is of cylindrical form with a simple loop handle, paired with a circular saucer. The decoration consists of a hand-painted grapevine pattern, depicting clusters of purple grapes and green leaves on brown trailing vines, with a brown-toned band to the rims and handles. The base of each piece features a black printed mark reading Manufactured for / JAMES POWELL & SONS / Whitefriars Glass Works EC / and / 11 Conduit Street W / LONDON / WEDGWOOD. The cups include the word ETRURIA beneath the maker name. The saucers also bear an impressed mark reading WEDGWOOD alongside an impressed three-part code 10 Z 22. Each piece is marked with a hand-painted pattern number A4935 in brown enamel, with a painted letter Y appearing on the saucers.
