Lot 685: A Collection of Earthenware Novelty Tablewares including Keele Street Pottery Cottage Ware
A collection of English and Japanese glazed earthenware novelty tablewares featuring moulded relief decoration and hand-painted polychrome finishes. The group includes a teapot, matching lidded sugar bowl, and cream jug modelled as thatched cottages with branch-form handles and spouts. The yellow-glazed base of these cottage ware items bears the word ENGLAND in raised relief, an incised KSP, and a printed circular backstamp reading KEELE ST POTTERY CO. LTD, MADE IN ENGLAND, and STOKE-ON-TRENT (photo 3). A large lidded storage jar is fashioned as a two-storey house with a blue section and thatched roof; its base bears a printed black circular mark reading MADE IN JAPAN around a central floral motif (photo 4). The assortment also contains a small lidded pot shaped as a circular cottage with a conical roof and a honey pot modelled as a traditional woven skep with a relief bee on the exterior and lid, accompanied by a small spoon.
