A collection of English earthenware tea and dinner wares featuring the Chinese Rose pattern. The decoration is executed in a brown transfer-printed technique, depicting Oriental-style floral sprays including peonies and foliage, framed by a geometric honeycomb border with floral swags. The service consists of a teapot with lid, a large circular lidded tureen, a smaller circular lidded tureen, a lidded sugar bowl, a sauce boat, a cream jug, a rectangular serving dish, teacups with saucers, dinner plates, and side plates. The base of the pieces (photo 3) bears a printed mark in brown ink reading COPELAND above a central vertical box containing the name SPODE, followed by ENGLAND, the registration number Rd No 629599, and the pattern name CHINESE ROSE in quotation marks. A small green character O is also printed adjacent to the main mark.
