Lot 1036: A Large Floral Needlepoint Carpet and a Hand-Knotted Tribal Rug
A large floral needlepoint carpet and a hand-knotted tribal rug. The needlepoint carpet is worked in wool yarn onto a woven canvas foundation in a petit point technique. It features an all-over floral design comprising large-scale rose and foliage bouquets in a palette of dusty pink, sage green, taupe, and cream, set against a cream-coloured field. The design is framed by a wide border with repeating floral sprays and finished with a solid rose-pink outer guard band. The second item is a hand-knotted wool rug on a wool foundation, executed in a Caucasian or Anatolian tribal fashion. It features a vibrant madder-red field decorated with stylized floral rosettes and geometric motifs in blue, ivory, and ochre. The main border is an ivory ground with repeating polychrome hooked geometric patterns, flanked by multiple guard borders including a dark blue band with reciprocal hooked motifs. No maker’s marks, signatures, or woven inscriptions are visible on either piece.
