Lot 51: A Collection of Mid-20th Century Enamelware Domestic Utensils

A collection of mid-20th century enamelware domestic utensils, primarily finished in cobalt blue and white vitreous enamel. The group includes a pair of nested circular bowls, with the larger outer bowl in white and the inner bowl in cobalt blue featuring two D-shaped loop handles. Also included is a rectangular-profile liquid carrier or flask in cobalt blue enamel, fitted with a narrow neck, a wire swing handle, and a degraded cork stopper. Further items include a white enamel measuring jug with a blue-finished handle and pouring lip, a small white enamel cup with a blue rim and handle, and two white enamel funnels of differing sizes, both featuring integrated hanging loops. The items are constructed from pressed steel with a heavy porcelain enamel coating. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the exterior surfaces.

Condition report:
The collection is in poor to fair vintage condition, showing signs of heavy utilitarian use and storage. There is extensive corrosion and rust throughout the lot, most notably concentrated along the rims, handles, and base edges where the enamel coating has chipped (photos 1 and 2). The interior of the white measuring jug shows significant rust staining and surface oxidation (photo 2). The blue nested bowl exhibits heavy surface wear and enamel loss to the interior base (photo 2). The cork stopper in the blue flask is heavily degraded and partially broken (photo 1). Staining and surface dirt are present across all items.
