Lot 69: A Collection of Maritime and Fishing Buoys and Fenders
Not sold
A collection of maritime and fishing buoys and vessel fenders of various forms and materials, presented in a red plastic crate. The group includes several spherical buoys: a heavily weathered and pitted dark metallic float with encrusted marine growth, a yellow painted metal buoy with a rusted iron attachment ring, and a green plastic float with rope netting. Also present are cylindrical vessel fenders, including one wrapped in a white canvas sleeve with integrated rope, and a large blue fender with a knitted fabric cover showing significant wear and a large tear exposing the foam or rubber core. The items are accompanied by various lengths of weathered synthetic rope. The collection demonstrates a variety of utilitarian marine forms with heavy surface oxidation and typical signs of maritime exposure. One buoy features a yellow adhesive label reading MADE IN PHILIPPINES.
Condition report:
The items are in heavily used condition, consistent with prolonged marine exposure. The dark metallic float shows extensive pitting, surface corrosion, and organic marine accumulation (photo 1). The yellow metal buoy exhibits significant rust to the attachment ring and paint loss (photo 1). The large blue fender has a significant tear to the fabric cover, measuring approximately 15cm, exposing the internal core material (photo 2). The white canvas fender shows heavy staining and surface grime (photo 1). Ropes are frayed and weathered throughout.
