Lot 815: An Anglo-Indian Hoshiarpur Sheesham Wood and Bone Inlaid Tray

This auction ended on 17 October 2026.

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £20

A rectangular serving tray crafted from dark-stained sheesham wood, featuring extensive bone or similar material inlay. The decorative scheme is characteristic of Hoshiarpur craftsmanship, centred by a diamond-shaped lozenge containing dense scrolling foliate and floral arabesque motifs. This central panel is enclosed within multiple concentric borders, including repeating geometric diamonds, a scrolling leaf vine, and an outer barber-pole stringing of alternating dark and light segments. The flared gallery sides are decorated with inlaid leaf sprigs and feature integrated, pierced handle grips at the shorter ends. The tray is constructed with rounded corners, and the inlay is finished flush with the wooden surface. There are no visible maker marks or inscriptions on the piece.
