Lot 863: An Antique Elm and Beech Smoker's Bow Armchair
Not sold
An antique smoker’s bow armchair of traditional Windsor construction. The chair features a deep, horseshoe-shaped crest rail that transitions seamlessly into broad armrests, supported by seven turned vertical spindles. The armrests terminate in scrolling bows, each bolstered by a stout, decoratively turned outer spindle. The solid seat is shaped with a shallow saddle dish and is constructed from a single thick piece of wood, likely elm. The underframe is built with traditional socket-and-tenon joinery, which is characteristic of Victorian utilitarian furniture. The wood surface retains a dark, heavily patinated finish. The chair is accompanied by a non-original green velvet-covered foam seat pad.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
