Lot 567: A Late Victorian Black Slate and Red Marble Mantel Clock
A black slate and red marble mantel clock from the late Victorian period, featuring a traditional architectural temple-style case. The case is constructed from polished black slate with a domed top and stepped base, embellished with incised geometric patterns and inset panels of variegated red marble. The sides of the central drum are flanked by scrolling slate supports. The circular white enamel dial features black Roman numeral hour markers and a minute track, with two winding holes for the eight-day twin-train movement and a smaller regulation aperture at the 12 o’clock position. The movement is designed to strike on a bell or gong. The dial is set within a gilt metal bezel with a bevelled glass cover. A white adhesive lot label marked 567 is attached to the left side of the case.
