Lot 823: A Painted Wooden Cutler's Stool
A painted wooden cutler’s stool featuring a circular seat supported by three splayed, tapered legs. The seat is decorated with a hand-painted folk-art style sky motif, consisting of white clouds against a light blue ground. The legs are finished in contrasting tones of pale blue and teal. The stool is of simple tripod construction, with the legs tenoned into the underside of the solid wooden seat. On the upper surface of the seat, there is a hand-painted black inscription which appears to read “Looe:” preceded by a stylized character resembling a flourish or the letter “L”, with associated dots. The underside is not visible for further marks.
Seat Diameter: 23 cm.
