Lot 151: An Assortment of Architectural Salvage and Rustic Antiques Including Wrought Iron Panels and a Transit Chest
A mixed lot of architectural and domestic antiques. The collection includes several wrought iron architectural panels and fragments featuring repeating circular scrolls and fleur-de-lis motifs. Also included is a circular turned wooden component, possibly a lid for a churn or similar vessel, featuring concentric ring ornamentation and a central hand-forged iron crank handle. Completing the lot is a wooden transit chest with metal corner reinforcements and side handles. The chest bears a paper shipping label printed with the name S. HAWKINS., an address line for LONDON, and the instruction NOT WANTED ON VOYAGE, indicating its historical use for storage in a ship hold during sea travel.
Condition report:
The wrought iron elements show heavy corrosion and oxidation throughout, with several pieces being fragmentary. The wooden circular component is weathered with a significant longitudinal crack. The transit chest exhibits surface abrasions, staining, and rust to the metal hardware and reinforcements.
