Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises a collection of decorative ceramics and household items. Included is a group of mid-century tea wares by Alfred Meakin in the Alpine Moderne pattern, featuring a minimalist design of intersecting red and black lines on a white ground. The set includes a cream jug, tea cups, and saucers, with the cream jug bearing the green printed mark Alpine England to the base. Also present is a small earthenware vase in the Satsuma style, of baluster form with a flared rim and foot. The central panel is hand-painted with a seated samurai figure in traditional armour within a bamboo landscape, finished with raised moriage enamel and gilding. The neck and foot are decorated with gilded scrolling motifs on a cobalt blue ground. The collection further includes a narrow-necked bottle with a cobalt blue upper section and cream lower body, seated within a matching cobalt blue glazed basin with a beaded rim. A small porcelain dish with a scalloped shell-like rim is finished in an iridescent pearl-like lustre glaze and decorated with transfer-printed green shamrock motifs. Completing the lot is an enamelled metal kettle with a fixed overhead handle and lid, featuring a cobalt blue ground with white and light blue daisy-style floral motifs.

Condition report:

The Alfred Meakin tea wares and the Satsuma style vase appear to be in good overall condition with no significant chips or cracks visible. The lustre glazed dish and the blue and cream vessel set also appear intact. The enamelware kettle shows significant wear and chipping to the vitreous enamel coating, particularly around the base and lower body, exposing the metal substrate.
