Lot 553: A Set of Four Denby Langley Canterbury Pattern Stoneware Lidded Soup Dishes
A set of four mid-century stoneware lidded ramekins or individual soup dishes manufactured by Denby in the Canterbury pattern. Each vessel is constructed with a cylindrical body featuring concentric horizontal ribbed bands and an integral tapering side handle. The flat-topped lids are fitted with tall, hollow cylindrical knobs. One lid includes a factory-produced steam release hole. The set is finished in a matte ochre or honey-brown glaze with a fine speckled texture throughout. The base of the vessels bears a printed mark in dark ink featuring a stylized heraldic crest and the Denby name.
Condition report:
The items are in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The glaze shows consistent colouration and texture across all pieces.
