Lot 563: A Scottish Grained Leather Day Sporran and a Pair of Red Wool Garter Flashes
A collection of Scottish Highland dress accessories comprising a day sporran and a pair of garter flashes. The day sporran is constructed from dark brown grained leather and features a fold-over flap secured by a metal press-stud. The front is decorated with three leather tassels suspended from leather thongs. The reverse is fitted with a wide leather belt loop and bears an embossed gilt mark reading REAL LEATHER arranged in an arc above MADE IN SCOTLAND. A handwritten sticker on the reverse reads 810 SPORRAN leather, sock flashes plus skin-do, although no sgian-dubh is included in the lot. The pair of garter flashes are made of red wool with traditional fringed ends, mounted on adjustable black elasticated straps with silver-tone metal slides and hooks.
Condition report:
The items are in good used condition. The leather of the sporran remains supple with only minor surface scuffing and some wear to the gilt lettering on the reverse. The red wool flashes remain vibrant in colour, and the elasticated straps retain good tension. The metal components show minimal signs of oxidation.
