Lot 594: A Group of Decorative Items and Ephemera including a Jasperware Trinket Box and a 1956 Newspaper
A group of decorative items and ephemera. The lot includes a heart-shaped blue jasperware trinket box featuring white sprigged relief decoration of classical figures and foliate borders, in the style of Wedgwood. Also included is a vintage edition of the Daily Express newspaper dated Wednesday 29 August 1956, with headlines relating to the Suez Crisis. The collection further contains a miniature hinged box designed as a floral tea set on a circular base, accompanied by its original cardboard packaging labelled Teaset Hinged Boxes. Completing the group are two carved stone animal figurines, including an elephant, fashioned from a semi-translucent pale green or grey stone, possibly onyx or soapstone. No maker’s marks are visible on the bases of the objects.
Condition report:
The items are in generally good condition. The newspaper exhibits expected age-related toning, creases, and minor wear to the edges. The jasperware box, miniature tea set, and stone figurines appear to be free from visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The original packaging for the miniature box shows minor shelf wear.
