Lot 605: German Reichsbank 1,000 Mark Banknote, 21 April 1910
A German Reichsbanknote with a face value of 1,000 Mark, dated 21 April 1910. The obverse features ornate calligraphic text reading Ein Tausend Mark with two red Reichsbanksiegel (Imperial Bank seals) and printed signatures from the Reichsbankdirektorium. The serial number 2762026 E is printed in red ink. The reverse displays a large central vignette featuring the Imperial Eagle coat of arms flanked by two allegorical female figures representing navigation and agriculture. The note is printed in sepia and olive-green tones on off-white paper. This issue is catalogued as Pick 44b.
Condition report:
Fine. The note exhibits a heavy central vertical fold and rounded corners consistent with significant circulation. Minor tears are visible along the margins, specifically at the top right and bottom edges. Foxing and brown staining are present on both the obverse and reverse, primarily located near the edges and the primary fold line. General age-related paper discolouration is evident throughout.
