Lot 637: A Collection of Vintage Polished Hardstone and Alabaster Eggs
A collection of carved and polished hardstone eggs, including specimens of alabaster, onyx, and marble. The eggs display a range of natural colours including green, brown, pink, yellow, grey, and white, many featuring characteristic banding and mineral inclusions. Each piece has been worked to a high-gloss finish. The group is presented in a shallow, circular turned wooden bowl with a smooth matte surface. Similar collections are often attributed to mid-20th century Italian manufacture, particularly from the Volterra region. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the accessible surfaces.
Condition report:
The collection appears to be in good overall condition. No chips, cracks, or significant surface scratches are visible to the stone specimens. The wooden bowl remains structurally sound with minor surface wear consistent with age and use.
