Lot 197: A Pair of Victorian Style Cast Iron Garden Bench Ends
A pair of cast iron garden bench ends featuring ornate Victorian-style scrollwork and foliate openwork decoration. Each end is of solid cast metal construction, incorporating an integrated curved armrest and four pre-drilled mounting holes designed for the attachment of wooden slats. The items are finished in a dark green paint. No embossed foundry marks, maker’s names, or signatures are visible on the castings. The white rectangular labels present are auction lot identifiers.
Condition report:
The items are in a weathered, used condition suitable for a restoration project. There is significant chipping and loss to the dark green painted finish throughout. Surface oxidation and rust are visible on the exposed metal, particularly at the joints and feet. The cast iron frames appear structurally sound with no visible cracks or breaks.
