Lot 455: A Pair of Large Hand-Painted Earthenware Serving Platters with Vegetable Motifs
A pair of large decorative glazed earthenware serving platters, comprising one circular and one oval example. The platters feature a matching hand-painted design in a whimsical country style. The decoration is divided between a bold cobalt blue and white chequerboard pattern and a pale beige marbled ground. Overlaid on these patterns are hand-painted vegetable motifs, including carrots, asparagus spears, radishes, and red chillies. The style is characteristic of contemporary European decorative earthenware, frequently seen in Mediterranean imports from Italy or Portugal. No factory marks or signatures are visible on the front of the items. One platter bears a lot sticker for Liskeard Auction Rooms.
Condition report:
Both platters appear to be in good overall condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on the upper surfaces. There is minor surface wear and light scratching consistent with age and use.
