Lot 474: A Pair of Persian Tribal Hand-Knotted Wool Tent Trappings
A pair of V-shaped decorative textile wall hangings, identified as nomadic tent or animal trappings of Persian or Central Asian tribal origin. The pieces are constructed with hand-knotted wool pile on a fabric backing. The pair includes one panel with a navy-blue ground and a second with an ivory ground, both decorated with floral and foliate motifs in red, blue, and gold-tone wool. The lower edges are finished with rows of red and navy-blue wool tassels, many featuring small blue and red beads. Each panel is attached to a fabric-wrapped horizontal suspension rod. A modern auction lot sticker numbered 474 is adhered to one panel. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are present.
Condition report:
The items are in good condition with vibrant colours throughout. Minor surface wear and occasional loose threads are present, consistent with age and tribal construction. The tassel and bead ornamentation remains largely intact.
