Lot 590: Two Esso FA Cup Centenary 1872-1972 Promotional Albums and Three Wristwatches
This lot consists of two promotional albums issued by Esso to commemorate the centenary of the FA Cup (1872–1972) and three gent’s wristwatches. The first album is a blue fold-out titled FA Cup Centenary Medals 1872-1972, which contains a collection of silver-toned commemorative medals representing winning clubs from the first 100 years of the competition, including Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The second is a red promotional album titled F.A. Cup Coins, featuring historical photographs and illustrations of match action and the FA Cup trophy. These items were originally issued as promotional collectibles through Esso petrol stations. The three wristwatches comprise a gold-toned Timex with a white dial, black Roman numeral markers, and an unusually large protruding winding crown on a black leather-effect strap; a President Quartz watch with a white dial, Roman numerals, and a turquoise-coloured finish to the case on a tan leather-effect strap; and a gold-toned Limit watch head with a white dial, gold-toned baton markers, and a central seconds hand, featuring a geometric logo of two interlaced diamond shapes at the 12 o’clock position.
Condition report:
