Lot 596: A Collection of Vintage Military, Nursing, and Organisational Badges
A collection of badges of British interest, spanning military, nursing, and civilian organisations. The group includes a Royal Air Force (RAF) badge, likely a sweetheart brooch or small cap badge, featuring outstretched wings flanking a central circular device with an intertwined RAF monogram. The badge is surmounted by a King’s Crown (Tudor crown), indicating a date of manufacture prior to 1953, and is of silver-tone metal construction. The nursing interest is represented by a hexagonal blue enamel badge inscribed Orthopaedic Nursing Certificate around the border, with a central field featuring a stylised tree and a Staff of Asclepius. The collection also contains several Girl Guide badges, including a blue enamel trefoil badge with the letters G and G flanking a central cross, a similar trefoil design in red enamel, and a smaller trefoil badge in brass-tone metal. Completing the lot is a circular silver-tone lapel badge featuring a stylised graphic of three blue and three black slanted parallel lines.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition. The RAF badge shows a light natural patina. The enamel on the nursing and Girl Guide badges appears largely intact with minor surface wear consistent with age and use. Pins and fastenings are present to the reverse where visible.
