The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £5

Buyer's Premium:

This collection comprises a variety of utilitarian glasswares dating from the late Victorian period to the early 20th century. The group includes beverage bottles such as a Hamilton or torpedo-style bottle, designed to remain on its side to keep the cork moist, and several Codd-neck bottles which retain their internal glass marbles. Medicinal and apothecary bottles are present in rectangular, square, and cylindrical forms, with some examples retaining ground glass stoppers. Household and food containers include small product jars and merchant-specific bottles. Embossed markings include Histon Cambridge, associated with Chivers and Sons; Vaseline Chesebrough Mfg Co New York; Wood’s 1/4 Gill Pure; Daysons Hull; and Eglintons. The bottles are manufactured using blown-in-mould construction with applied or tooled finishes. The glass palette includes aqua, clear, olive green, amber, and cobalt.

Condition report:

The items are in as found condition, exhibiting surface wear, light scratches, and ground-in dirt consistent with recovery from historical refuse sites. Some bottles show internal clouding or bloom caused by long-term burial. Bidders should expect minor flea-bites, small chips to the rims, and potential internal cracks consistent with the age and nature of the collection. A few apothecary bottles retain their original or period glass stoppers, and one small bottle has a cork remaining in the neck.
