Lot 614: A Pair of Large Victorian Brass-Cased Rim Locks
A pair of substantial Victorian style brass-cased rim locks, designed for surface mounting on domestic doors. Each lock features a rectangular polished brass casing housing ferrous metal internal components. The first lock is configured with a circular aperture for a doorknob spindle and a standard keyhole, and retains a heavily oxidised iron mounting plate attached to the underside. The second lock features a circular spindle aperture, a keyhole, and an integrated brass privacy snib or bolt lever located above the keyhole. No manufacturer names, patent marks, or stamps are visible on the external brass surfaces of either item.
Condition report:
The brass casings exhibit a natural aged patina with visible surface scratches, tarnish, and areas of oxidation consistent with age and use. Significant rust and corrosion are present on the iron components of the top lock. No keys, spindles, or doorknobs are included with the lot. The mechanical action of both locks is untested, and internal springs or mechanisms may require professional servicing or restoration. Sold as seen for architectural salvage.
