Lot 621: A carved and inlaid wooden decorative box in the North African style
A small, rectangular decorative wooden box constructed from dark-stained wood featuring relief-carved panels and light-coloured geometric inlays. The lid displays a central carved panel with hatched and checkerboard patterns within an inlaid triangular border. The front presents two carved panels with stylized profile motifs flanked by star and diamond-shaped inlays. The box is fitted with brass-coloured hinges and a central keyhole. The interior is composed of plain, unlined natural wood. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible. The construction and decorative motifs are characteristic of North African or Middle Eastern folk-art traditions.
Condition report:
The box is in fair condition. There is visible wear and scuffing to the surface finish, particularly at the edges and corners. The metal hardware shows signs of oxidation.
