Lot 646: Two Vintage Metal Fishing Reels comprising a Maxima Centrepin Reel and a Fly Reel attributed to Hardy
This lot consists of two vintage metal fishing reels of different specifications. The larger reel is a Maxima centrepin model, constructed from cast alloy with a textured finish. The face plate is embossed with the name THE MAXIMA REEL and the phrase DOUBLE THE LINE CAPACITY. It is fitted with two black winding handles and a central silver-toned hub, while the reverse features a six-spoke reinforced design. The smaller item is a perforated fly-fishing reel attributed to Hardy, resembling the St. George Junior pattern. It features a single winding handle, a central screw-down hub, and a characteristic circular perforation pattern on the face. No maker’s marks are visible on the smaller reel.
Condition report:
Both reels exhibit signs of age and extensive use. Surface oxidation, pitting to the metal, and wear to the original finish are visible on both items. There is a significant accumulation of grime and surface tarnish. The mechanical functionality of the reels has not been tested.
