Lot 674: An Ever Ready Sky King Portable Valve Radio
A mid-20th-century Ever Ready Sky King portable valve radio, manufactured in the United Kingdom circa 1950s. The cabinet is constructed with a wooden frame featuring rounded corners, finished in a tan textured Rexine or leatherette covering. The front is fitted with a vertically striped dark brown and gold-toned speaker grille cloth, which carries a metal badge to the upper left corner inscribed EVER READY Sky King. The top-mounted control panel is recessed into the cabinet and protected by a large, clear arched plastic carrying handle. The black and gold-toned tuning dial displays station names for Medium Wave (MW) and Long Wave (LW) bands, including BBC Home, Light, and Third programmes. It features three cream-coloured plastic control knobs for Volume, Tone, and a central waveband selector marked OFF, MW, and LW. The control panel also bears the Ever Ready logo within a rectangular border.
Condition report:
The radio is in as found condition. The exterior Rexine covering shows significant dirt, staining, and general surface wear consistent with age, including scuffing at the edges. The grille cloth appears intact but is dusty. The clear plastic handle is present and secure. The interior has not been inspected, and the item has not been tested for working order.
