Lot 727: Two vintage mid-20th century suitcases with original shipping labels and travel markings
A group of two vintage suitcases, mid-20th century. The larger suitcase is constructed from a grey textured material with metal-banded reinforcement and iron locks. It features several original travel labels including a blue and white Chandris Lines sticker, a Baggage Room (Wanted on Voyage) label, and a shipping tag for the vessel Centaur destined for Fremantle, Australia, for passenger M.E.W. Williams. The side is stencilled with the owner’s address in Plymouth, Devon, accompanied by a small Devon coat of arms. The second, smaller suitcase is tan canvas-covered with leather corner protectors and metal locks, with the name J. Roche handwritten on the top. Both items feature metal hardware and integrated handles.
Condition report:
Both items are in poor to fair condition, exhibiting heavy surface soiling and significant corrosion to the metal fittings and locks. There is notable deterioration to the handles and leather components. The travel labels show wear, tearing, and fading consistent with age and use.
