Lot 738: A Mid-Century Modern Teak Dining Suite by Scandart Ltd
A mid-century modern dining suite manufactured by Scandart Ltd of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The suite comprises an oval extending dining table and a set of matching chairs. The table is constructed with a teak-veneered top featuring a central seam for the insertion of leaves, supported by four solid wood tapered cylindrical legs. The chairs feature curved, upholstered backrests and padded seats, currently finished in a blue and cream geometric diamond pattern fabric. A black rectangular metal manufacturer’s plaque is attached to the frame, reading Scandart Ltd, HIGH WYCOMBE, BUCKS. in script and block lettering. The design reflects the Scandinavian influence prevalent in British furniture manufacturing during the 1960s.
Condition report:
The table top exhibits visible signs of age and domestic use, including surface scratches, several water or heat marks, and areas of light staining to the veneer. The chair upholstery shows significant discolouration and staining, particularly to the seat pads. The wooden frames of both the table and chairs appear structurally sound but show general surface wear, minor scuffs, and abrasions consistent with age.
