Lot 783: A Late 20th Century Reproduction Hardwood Dining Suite in the Georgian Taste
Attributed to Drexel Heritage, this substantial reproduction hardwood dining suite is designed in the Georgian taste and dates to the late 20th century. The suite comprises a large oval dining table and a matching set of eight dining chairs, including two carvers. The table features a large oval top with a deeply carved gadrooned and foliate border, supported by four heavy cabriole legs. Each leg is intricately carved with acanthus leaf motifs at the knee and terminates in scroll feet. A central seam to the tabletop indicates it is an extending model, though no additional leaves are present. The set of eight chairs includes six side chairs and two armchairs. Each chair is constructed with a shaped top rail featuring central foliate carving, a vase-shaped splat, and woven cane seats. The chairs are raised on cabriole front legs with scroll feet, matching the table base. The suite is finished in a polished mahogany colour. One carver chair is shown with a non-integral tartan cushion.
Dimensions not provided.
Condition report:
Generally in good used condition. There are minor surface scratches, scuffs, and signs of wear to the wood finish consistent with age and domestic use. The cane seating appears largely intact across the set, with some minor age-related sagging visible on a few chairs. No additional leaves are present for the table.
