Lot 916: Two vintage mid-20th-century travel suitcases
Two vintage suitcases dating from the mid-20th century. The first is a large brown rectangular suitcase featuring a textured exterior surface, likely vulcanized fibre or synthetic leatherette. It is constructed with reinforced metal corners, two metal latches, and a central carrying handle. The second is a smaller suitcase with a blue and grey horizontally-striped fabric-covered body, reinforced by two horizontal wooden slats and blue metal corners. This piece is fitted with two large metal flip-lock latches and a blue central handle with an attached white paper identification tag. No maker’s marks or brand names are visible on either item.
Condition report:
Both items show significant signs of age and heavy use. The brown suitcase exhibits notable scuffing, surface marks, and rusted hardware. The fabric suitcase shows surface abrasions and tarnished metal components.
