Lot 937: Stag Minstrel Mahogany Veneered Seven Drawer Chest
This seven drawer chest is from the Minstrel range produced by Stag Furniture, designed by John and Sylvia Reid. The piece is constructed with mahogany veneers over a solid core, featuring a deep reddish-brown tone and straight grain. The drawer configuration follows a 2-3-2 layout, with two wide drawers at the top and bottom flanking a central column of three smaller drawers. The drawers are constructed with machine-cut dovetail joints and the secondary wood is a light-coloured utility hardwood. The chest retains its original brass-finished hardware, consisting of four pairs of ring pulls on the larger drawers and three central circular knobs. A handwritten paper label is present on the top surface which reads STAG SEVEN DRAWER CHEST. 13. The interiors of the drawers are lined with a floral patterned paper.
Condition report:
The chest is in good vintage condition. There is minor surface wear including light scratches and small scuffs to the veneer, primarily concentrated around the base and edges, consistent with age and regular use. The finish remains largely bright and even across all surfaces. The hardware is complete and functional. The interior floral paper lining is a later addition and appears clean and well-adhered.
