The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £50

Estimated price: £80

Buyer's Premium:

A French Provincial style tub chair, attributed to the early 20th century Louis XVI Revival period with British Colonial influences. The frame is constructed from a medium-toned hardwood, featuring a curved back and seat integrated with woven rattan cane panels in a decorative herringbone pattern. The woodwork is embellished with fine reeded moulding, resembling faux-bamboo, with a carved, plaited border serving as a decorative transition between the frame and the cane sections. The armrests terminate in hand-carved scrolling volutes, supported by fluted baluster-form uprights. The chair is raised on turned and fluted front legs and plain, splayed rear legs. The underside reveals a solid wood seat base of wide plank construction. No manufacturer marks are present, though a modern auction label for Liskeard Auction Rooms is attached to the right armrest.

Condition report:

The chair is in good structural condition with wear commensurate with age. There are visible surface scuffs, scratches, and minor indentations to the timber, particularly on the armrests and legs. The woven cane panels remain largely intact, with minor fraying and small breaks to some individual strands. The underside shows natural shrinkage and surface cracking to the wood planks, typical for the age of the piece.
