Lot 996: An Edwardian Oak and Silver Plated Serving Tray and a Copper Hot Water Bottle
A lot comprising two items of early 20th-century domestic metalware and woodenware. The first item is an Edwardian-style serving tray of octagonal form with clipped corners, constructed from quarter-sawn oak. It features a silver plated gallery rail supported by ball spacers, twin scrolled handles, and a central unengraved octagonal cartouche. The tray is raised on four ball feet. The second item is a circular copper hot water bottle of pancake form, featuring concentric raised rings to the upper surface and a central recessed filler neck. It is fitted with a cast brass screw-in stopper with a ring-pull handle, stamped with the functional instruction FILL TO TOP.
Condition report:
The oak tray shows surface scratching and wear consistent with age, with a visible hairline split to the wood on the underside. The metal fittings show tarnishing and minor loss of plating. The copper hot water bottle has several noticeable dents to the upper surface. The reverse exhibits heavy patina, oxidation, and small areas of verdigris.
