Lot 854: Late Victorian English metal-bound dome-top immigrant trunk
A late 19th or early 20th-century dome-top travelling trunk, frequently referred to as a camel back or immigrant trunk. The piece is constructed from metal panels, likely iron or steel, over a wooden carcass. The rounded lid is reinforced with horizontal wooden slats and secured with a multitude of dome-headed metal rivets. Hardware includes a central stamped-metal latch and wrought iron drop-loop carry handles to the sides. The interior is finished with an aged blue paint. Labels present on the exterior are modern auction house lot and inventory stickers; no historical maker’s marks are visible.
