Lot 373: A mid to late 20th century Chinese carved washed wool rug
A Chinese wool rug, of the style known as a Chinese Super or washed rug, featuring a thick and heavy wool pile on a cotton foundation. The central field is a mottled grey-blue, decorated at one end with a single, asymmetrical floral spray. The composition is framed by an inner Greek key meander border in tonal blues and beige, followed by a wide cream border with scrolling floral branches in terracotta, pink, and blue shades. The rug is finished with a wide, plain navy blue outer border. The floral and geometric motifs are hand-carved to provide a three-dimensional, embossed appearance. The rug retains a paper auction label for Liskeard Auction Rooms, Lot 373.
Width: Approximately 116 cm.
