Lot 472: A Collection of James Kent Old Foley Tableware and a Decorative Bird Motif Tray
A collection of English ceramic tableware by James Kent Ltd in the Old Foley range. The pieces are decorated in a yellow rose chintz pattern, featuring large transfer-printed yellow rose blooms against a dense gold floral transfer ground, finished with scalloped gilt rims. The group includes a large cake stand plate with a central piercing, a large serving bowl, and an assortment of small dessert or fruit bowls. Each piece bears the blue transfer backstamp for James Kent Ltd, Staffordshire, England. Included in the lot is a rectangular serving tray comprising a ceramic plaque set into a metal frame. The plaque is decorated with a polychrome design of two birds amongst branches with berries and flowers. The underside of the ceramic insert bears the handwritten mark Dec: 1564. The metal frame is supported on four ball feet and features two scroll-form handles.
