Lot 473: A Contemporary Composite Hiking Staff with a Brass Four-Face Buddha Finial
This contemporary walking staff is a composite piece featuring a cast brass finial and a modified natural wood shaft. The handle is formed by a brass-toned alloy head depicting four facial expressions, representing joy, sorrow, anger, and serenity. The metal displays visible green verdigris in the recesses of the casting. Positioned immediately below the head is a bright red anodised metal collar, followed by a grip area tightly wrapped in black paracord. The shaft is constructed from a natural wood branch, possibly hickory, and retains its organic form including visible knots and irregular surfaces. The wood has been finished with a deep reddish-brown stain and varnish. A small metal eyelet is fixed to the shaft below the grip, from which a yellow cord lanyard with a lobster-style clasp and decorative beads is suspended.
